Schrodinger's Heroes
Imagine a fandom for a television show that doesn't actually exist yet. Some of us feel dissatisfied with the narrow-minded options on the air, and we want something better ...
It began when Dreamwidth user Melannen created a frame for "101 Asexy Sex Scenes" with attention to character orientations. Next, I wrote out a description and some other materials for the apocryphal television show Schrodinger's Heroes and its imaginary fandom. I started writing scripts, poetry, fiction, and other goodies for the show. Finally, other creative folks contributed material of their own.
Schrodinger's Heroes wound up with lots of gender, racial, and other diversity. It features complex characters and thought-provoking themes. The show itself follows the adventures of several scientists and their friends as they attempt to manage dimension-spanning technology, fight evil, and not blow up anyone's personal life.
Why is there a cat in the cover picture? That's Schrodinger, one of the main characters. Cats can be amazingly smart and resourceful.

Open-source Fandom
Schrodinger's Heroes is an open-source fandom. This means that everyone is welcome to come play in the sandbox. Use the background materials to get started. Because of the quantum mechanics, you can use different dimensions to change the traits of characters, country, etc. as desired. This also makes the show ideal for crossovers if you like creating fanworks. Contributors are encouraged to share and share alike. Collaborations are welcome. All media are fine.
What's so cool about this? Think about how some fandoms become a huge part of culture, such as Star Trek. Now imagine how much more terrific material we might have if the core content belonged to the public domain instead of private interests. That's what we're doing here: creating cultural content that everyone can expand upon as they wish. The background stuff is open; individual works (poems, artwork, etc.) belong to their respective creators so rights may vary.

DON'Ts
For those of you who don't read German, the illustration says "Free work for a free society." The sun in the background shows part of the Creative Commons sign.
